DEFIBRILLATOR ELECTRODES:
- Generally three types of Electrodes are used:
1)
External
Electrodes:
Used for transthoracic stimulation. It consists of metal
discs about 3-5 cm in diameter and areattached to highly insulated handles.
Most of the conventional electrode systems are circular, alittle concave with
insulated back-side.Electrode gels are usually employed to reducecontact
impedance of the interface.
2)
Internal
Electrodes:Used for
direct cardiac stimulation. For internal defibrillation when thechest is open,
spoon-shaped electrodes are used.They are made-up of polished, surgical-quality
stainless steel. These paddles are overmolded with durable plastic.
3)
Disposable
Electrodes:Used externally on chest wall. Pre-gelled and self-
adhesive electrodes have been used for Automatic External Defibrillator.
